Massage can be defined as the systematic and manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissue using the hands in a gentle, flowing technique that uses varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements, promoting health, relaxation and improving well-being. A Swedish physiologist named Per Henrik Ling, created a scientific system of massage movements and techniques known as Swedish Massage. This consists of five basic strokes: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement (percussion), and vibration. Massage can improve: • Circulation What to expect? On the first visit clients are asked a number of questions concerning general well-being, injuries and medical conditions that Rachel should know about, in order to determine if there are any contra-indications (physical conditions that would prohibit or limit a massage treatment). Environment is important to the massage experience. The room will be warm and peaceful with low-level lighting, soft music and a pleasing aroma. Rachel will leave the room to give you privacy while you remove everything except your underwear and lie on the treatment couch under a large towel (do not wear your best pants they could come into contact with oils during the treatment!). During the session, Rachel will utilise the towel to expose only those parts of the body to which treatment is being applied. You should leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
